About
Hi, I’m Mandi, and I’m passionate about turning sustainability from a buzzword into something tangible, actionable, and deeply rooted in company culture. In my experience, when employees feel inspired and empowered, they can be the driving force behind a company’s sustainability success.
For the past (just shy of) seven years, I worked at Amazon - starting off in HR, taking on a volunteer role and turning that into 5 and a half years of driving employee engagement and education for WW Sustainability. I’ve always said that if Amazon can do it, then anyone can!
From launching my local volunteer Sustainability Ambassador team and supporting our 2 sister-sites with theirs, in 2019, I got the opportunity to take over the program. I inherited 20 sites (inc. my three) with Ambassador teams and grew the program to over 2,000 teams in operations globally - Australia and Japan, across India, Europe and the Middle East, and across the Americas with teams in Mexico and Brazil.
Working in a Fulfilment Centre gave me the real-life experience and understanding of the complexity and movement of that environment. I used my previous work experience of customer service to learn about my customer - employees, from hourly associates to site leads - understand their daily challenges, and create a path to reduce the mental load of sustainability - so they could just go do.
Focusing on three key pillars, I created the toolkits, projects, and plans for our Ambassador network to simply run with it. Sustainability shouldn’t be hard - it shouldn’t be this blocker that stops us from making progress simply because we get lost in the jargon.
I want to support other companies - big or small - embed a culture of sustainability for their business, for their employees, and ultimately for the planet. That’s why I started The Sustainability Consultancy!
About Me - Personally
I’ve always been passionate about the natural world - I’m a very values driven person and that includes environmentalism. I was obsessed with The Really Wild Show, Captain Planet, and Challenge Anneka - I was the kid in the garden with a butterfly book and digging up worms (though, not much has changed!).
In my mid-20s, I volunteered in Thailand with an ethical wildlife rescue (Wildlife Friends Foundation, Thailand). I’d been obsessed with elephants since I could remember so when I booked that trip, it was a bucket-list item I wanted to tick off. And I did it - I volunteered with elephants… but that trip completely changed the trajectory of my life.
I came back home and couldn’t settle with what I’d been doing before. So, as any undiagnosed ADHDer does, I enrolled on a course - I wasn’t sure why I was there, but I knew I wanted to work with animals. I gave myself two years to get a relevant qualification.
Seven years later, I’d graduated with a BSc (Hons) Wildlife Conservation and Ecology (1st Class), and a Masters by Research Applied Sciences (Conservation Biology). The leap from this to Amazon doesn’t make that much sense, but I needed to find work while I looked for the next big thing. It turned out that Amazon was the next big thing that I needed to do!
Outside of work, I love spending time with my dogs - Lando (pictured) and James (rescue Corgi). Lando is my adventure dog! We go paddleboarding and camping together, while James is happy to take up all the space on the sofa! I love gardening, reading, watching Formula 1, and I’m a big fan of Lego!
